Weekly Devotional – Pastor Wayne
“To him who is able.”
Jude 24 – “To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy–“
Several times now I have been at the bedside of someone in their final hours of life. Quietly and respectfully standing with family or friends as a loved one passes. What I’ve noticed is the visible and almost tangible difference in the room between those dying peacefully and those fighting it fearfully.
I think one of the reasons there is such a varying joy or tension for the one dying and those watching has to do with hope. Hope for what lies beyond. Hope for eternity. Hope that all is not over. Hope that something good or even someone strong and able is on the other side of death. Hope that their own life has not been lived in vain.
The hard reality is that throughout life each of us place our trust, faith and ultimately hope in something or someone. And all of that investment comes to the surface and is placed under the harsh and unforgiving light of death at the end.
For some a realization hits, like slamming into a brick wall, that chasing fame, amassing fortune, pursuing education, or accomplishing a bucket list of some kind has not provided the hope they are desperately seeking in their final hour.
Only Christ is able to keep me from stumbling. Only Christ is able to carry me through the final gate. Only Christ is able to present me fully alive before the Father.
Father in Heaven,
Strengthen my faith in You, and You alone. Help me live a life that points others to You; our only hope.
