Weekly Devotional – Pastor Wayne
“For all have sinned.”
Romans 3:22-23 – “There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
We live in a society that seems to suggest there are clear lines of distinction or separation between us. And that these various levels or classes can somehow be earned or lost.
Business class based on fee or air miles has the privilege of boarding first and sipping free orange juice with champagne. Reserved front row seats and prized theatre boxes are for the elite or those with inner connections. The Ivy League graduate, the candidate with the right last name, or the person who donated the biggest gift are moved quickly to the front of the line.
There is however, one deep unchanging element about human nature that transcends every race, gender and age. And even though this inner dark reality, revealed in the Holy Narrative, can be denied or dismissed by some it ultimately cannot be avoided.
What is true of every person who has ever lived or will ever live, including yours truly of course, is that we have all have sinned and fallen short of the mark.
Like an arrow shot towards a target and falling short; my sin has resulted in my broken relationship with God. I stand guilty as charged with no possibility of pardon. Save One.
Father in Heaven,
Have mercy on me for I am a sinner. I have fallen well short of the mark. Forgive my self-righteous attitude towards others. Only by You washing me will I be clean.
